PROVINCIAL YOUTH CONVENTION TO OPEN AT BPTC THIS SATURDAY

The Anglican Church of Melanesia’s (ACoM) Provincial Youth Convention will commence this Saturday, 31 October 2026, at Bishop Patteson Theological College (BPTC), Kohimarama, North West Guadalcanal.

The event will bring together around 300 young Anglicans and youth leaders from across the Anglican Province of Melanesia. The convention will kick off with a float parade from the Saint Barnabas Provincial Cathedral grounds to the BPTC campus, marking the start of a week-long programme of worship, learning, fellowship, and youth engagement.

Twenty-five youth representatives and their leaders from the eight dioceses in the Solomon Islands will participate in the gathering. They will be joined by four youth leaders representing Vanuatu’s two dioceses: the Diocese of Vanuatu and New Caledonia, and the Diocese of Banks and Torres.

The official opening service will be held on Sunday at Saint Luke’s Chapel in Tabalia, the Headquarters of the Melanesian Brotherhood. The Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Melanesia, The Most Reverend Leonard Dawea, will preside over the service, while the Bishop of the Diocese of Temotu, The Right Reverend Patteson Nibeo, will deliver the sermon.

Throughout the week, the convention will focus on spiritual growth and youth development through Bible teaching sessions, educational programmes, awareness activities, and interactive sharing forums. The curriculum is designed to strengthen the faith of young people and equip them to play a more active role in the mission and ministry of the Church.

Delegates from the Diocese of Temotu, Diocese of Guadalcanal, and Diocese of Small Malaita and Sikaiana have already arrived in Honiara. Mission secretaries and youth leaders from both Vanuatu dioceses have also arrived in the capital ahead of Saturday’s opening.

The Provincial Youth Convention is one of ACoM’s key youth formation programmes, providing a unique opportunity for young people from different dioceses to meet, exchange experiences, and deepen their Christian faith. The core objective of the 2026 convention is to empower ACoM youth members and leaders at all levels to be effective and efficient in youth ministry, particularly during these challenging times.

Church members throughout the Province are encouraged to uphold the convention in our prayers, asking for a safe, fruitful, and inspiring week of worship, learning, and fellowship for all delegates and leaders.
