Why the University is Named
John Coleridge Patteson
The university is named after John Coleridge Patteson (1827–1871),
the first Anglican Bishop of Melanesia. An English missionary and gifted
linguist, he devoted his life to serving the people of Melanesia, learning
numerous local languages and establishing Christian education throughout the
region. He was killed at Nukapu in the Solomon Islands in 1871 and is
remembered as a martyr of the Anglican Church.

graduates equipped with professional skills and Christian ethics. - Support
national development through education, healthcare, agriculture, and
leadership. - Serve
students from the Solomon Islands and the wider Melanesian region.
