THE Diocese of Central Melanesia (DOCM) this morning (Friday 31st October 2014) witnessed another group of Positive Parenting participants receiving certificates of achievements at the completion of a twelve (12) weeks course.
A total of fifty (50) participants from All Saints, St. Barnabas Cathedral, Vura and St. Peter Feraladoa and St. Francis, White River parishes came together at All Saints hall to mark the closing of this twelve weeks training held in their respective parishes and satellite churches.
“This ceremony signifies the growth of Positive Parenting Program in the diocese and I wish to commend all clergy and prominent lay members of the church making sure the program was carried out in respective parishes and churches ” Diocesan Mothers Union President, Mrs. Marylyn Chuchuni said in her speech at the ceremony.
Meanwhile, Archbishop of Melanesia The Most Rev. David Vunagi, who is also the Bishop of the Diocese of Central Melanesia, told the graduates that knowledge gained from this twelve weeks training is an extra valuable tool to be used in the family life.
“I would like to see you change looking after your children” Archbishop said to the graduates.
He further said that the Positive Parenting Program is one amongst the other responses the Church of Melanesia has taken onboard to respond to the many unwanted social behaviors that are currently affecting families, communities and the nation at large.
The General Secretary of the Anglican Church of Melanesia (ACoM) Dr. Abraham Hauriasi who also graduate in the program said; Parenting is one of the most important jobs in the world. However it is ironic that unlike most office jobs one does not need to have some form of qualifications to do it”.
“Maybe in the future there should be some training on parenting introduced in our schools. This will prepare youths who will become future parents” he said.
The Positive Parenting program will commence again next year 2015 and Youths and young couples are encouraged to join the program. Those interested should contact their parish clergy to register for the next round of parenting groups.
