The community of Marobu village in the Reef Islands welcomed home their son, the Most Reverend Leonard Dawea, Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Melanesia (ACoM), on Tuesday 4th August. Gathering at Saint Augustine Church, villagers joined in joyful worship as the Archbishop led the Holy Communion service, marked by vibrant singing and heartfelt participation.
Reflecting on Matthew 14:22–end, Archbishop Leonard encouraged his people to remain steadfast in faith, reminding them that like Peter walking on water, believers must keep their eyes on Christ even amid life’s storms. “When we fall or begin to sink like Peter, call out to Jesus through prayer and he will lift us up again,” he shared in both pidjin and his native language.
The visit was simple yet deeply meaningful for Marobu, where the Archbishop spent his early years. Villagers expressed pride and support, embracing him not only as their spiritual leader but as one of their own.
“No matter where we go, home is where our heart will always be,” he told them during his toktok story after the service.
He spoke of Temotu’s enduring place in his journey of faith, calling it “the island that introduced him to the gospel love and saving grace of God.”
Archbishop Leonard was the preside, preacher and the guest of honor to the DoT 22nd Diocesan synod held at Tuwo village; around 10 minutes’ drive by 60 horse power engine to Marobu.
His return to Marobu was both a celebration of faith and a reaffirmation of community strength, leaving the village inspired and united in hope.
