Youth Gap Centre Introduced In DOVNC

THE Diocese of Vanuatu and New Caledonia (DOVNC) in Vanuatu is setting up Youth Gap Center that runs Youth Gap Program for young people in the Diocese. Youth Gap Program involves training and preparing youths for mission experience.
According to the Diocesan Youth Coordinator – Fr. Benjamin Tosiro, the program is targeting young people at the age of 18 and above to develop them in Christ and train them in mission so that they are able to serve on an existing mission base somewhere on the cutting edge of Gods kingdom.
The Church Army Syllabus that is used for global gap year around the globe and contextualized is taught at the Centre.
Since the launching of the Centre on June 15th 2013 by the Bishop of the Diocese of Vanuatu and New Caledonia the Rt Rev. James Ligo, the regional youth coordinators of the eight regions in the diocese were the first intakes to undergo the three months program.
“The program has impacted the life young people and the communities of the diocese at large and great changes have been seen”, Fr. Benjamin said. Currently, Fr. Benjamin is lecturing the program.
“Though we have faced challenges in terms of finance and other resources for the Centre, I am satisfied that we have already completed two sets of intakes in 2013 and now having the first intakes for 2014”, Fr. Benjamin said.
The program was made possible through the Diocesan Bishop of Vanuatu and New Caledonia – the Rt Rev. James Ligo during Lambeth conference in 2008, when he was given an opportunity to meet the International and Regional Director of Church Army International. After listening to their presentation on Youth Gap concept, Bishop Ligo believed this was a way forward in addressing the social and spiritual needs of the growing youth population not only within the Anglican church of the Diocese of Vanuatu and New Caledonia but also the nation of large.
Fr. Benjamin appeals to those who can to assist the centre provide the much needed equipment and facilities for the centre.
