ACoM to Inaugurate John Coleridge Patteson University (JCPU) This Friday

A historic chapter in the life of the Anglican Church of Melanesia (ACoM) will unfold this Friday, 20th June 2025, with the official inauguration of the John Coleridge Patteson University (JCPU).

This long-awaited milestone marks the realization of a two-decade-old vision by the Church to establish a university that reflects its Christian values and contributes meaningfully to the development of Solomon Islands and the wider region. The journey began more than 20 years ago and received formal approval at the 16th General Synod of ACoM, held at Selwyn College in 2021.

Over the years, the vision has been carefully nurtured and developed in close consultation with key national education authorities, including the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development (MEHRD) and the Solomon Islands Tertiary Education and Skills Authority (SITESA).

The inauguration event on Friday will publicly announce the establishment of JCPU and its intent to serve as a future center of academic excellence rooted in Anglican Christian principles. While the registration of the university as a tertiary education provider is currently in process, plans for launching its academic programs are underway and will follow upon their formal accreditation by SITESA.

The Anglican Church of Melanesia sees this new institution as part of its mission to transform lives through quality education that nurtures the heart, head, and hands — values deeply embedded in its educational philosophy.

More details about the university’s programs and leadership structure will be made available following the inauguration and in subsequent announcements.
