The Diocese of Guadalcanal’s ‘Girls Friendly Society’ (GFS) successfully held a three-day rally over the weekend at Good Shepherd Cathedral, with the theme: “Nurturing Self-Esteem, Resilience, and Enabling Young Girls and Young Women for a Safe Christian Journey.”
The event brought together around 60 young girls and women from across the diocese, from Marasa Parish in West Guadalcanal to Ghaubata Parish in the east. A highlight of the rally was the admission of 40 new members into the GFS.
Speaking during the opening, the Bishop of the Diocese of Guadalcanal encouraged the girls to see GFS as a place where they can grow in their Christian faith, learn about their value and potential, and become aware of opportunities and challenges in life.
The Bishop also thanked Mrs. Doreen Dolaiano and her team from St. Francis Parish (DoCM) for coming to support and speak to the new members.
Throughout the rally, various talks focused on helping the girls understand their identity in Christ, build self-respect, and protect their values in a changing society.
During the admission service, the Mission Secretary of the Diocese of Guadalcanal Rev. Chris Sam reminded the girls of their vulnerability in today’s world and stressed the importance of knowing Christ early in life, living with Him daily, and sharing His love with others.
On the same note, the Diocese of Guadalcanal GFS Coordinator Ms. Hilda Tabala thanked Mummy Charity Loe for encouraging her to carry on with the rally despite challenges. She also appreciated Mrs. Dolaiano and her team for their inspiring messages.
Ms. Tabala noted that although GFS has existed in the Diocese for some time, it has struggled to grow. She called on the Diocese and Mothers’ Union to give greater support to the GFS, as today’s girls are the future mothers and leaders of the Church in Guadalcanal.
