CERTIFICATE REGULATIONS
General
The Certificate in Theology is the basic qualification awarded by BPTED. The academic requirements and regulations for the TED Certificate programme as set out in this Guideline are adopted from the BPTC Academic Handbook. Students who do not meet the requirements of the CertTheo may be awarded the lesser qualification of the Associate Certificate in Theology (ACT).

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS: CERTIFICATE AND DIPLOMA
TEDTH 110: Christian Understanding of God
The aim of this course is to introduce students to the Christian understanding of God. It will look at the understanding of God as Trinity, and examine how this concept was understood in the early Church, by the reformers, and more recently. In particular, it will look at how these concepts have been enculturated into Melanesia.

Theological Education in Distance
Bishop Patteson Theological Education by Distance is a new programme that is offered for the first time this year, 2015. This programme is run-off campus for people who for various reasons find it difficult to enroll at BPTC and STMs but would like to undertake studies in theology. The student pays for tuition fees and course materials at his or her expenses. Students enrolled in this programme may eventually graduate with Certificate of Theological Studies when specified requirements are completed. The courses will be offered as Certificate and Diploma courses.

JCPU NEWS UPDATESEducation Bill 2014 At last the Solomon Islands Government is upfront with the Education Bill 2014 to go to the Parliament later in the year (2015). Nine years ago in preparation for Bishop Patteson Theological College (BPTC) to offer the first degree courses in the country through theological education, the Principal then, the Rev. Philemon Akao went to see those at the Ministry of Education for the Solomon Islands Government to recognize the tertiary status of the college. The response from the Ministry of Education then wasn’t favourable as there was no tertiary education Act within the education system to facilitate the course of tertiary education. However, BPTC based on legal mechanisms established within the Ministry of Education was recognized to offer the degree courses.

BIRTH OF THE “SOLOMON ISLANDS SOLIDARITY FOR WEST PAPUA FREEDOM”.A one day consultation to discuss and highlight issues concerning West Papua’s struggle for freedom and independence from Indonesia on Friday 20th March 2015, led to the formation of the “Solomon Islands Solidarity for West Papua Freedom”.

Church leaders on Stewardship and Leadership TrainingAround thirty (30) church leaders comprising heads of departments at the ACoM Provincial head office, Diocesan Mission Secretaries, heads of training institutions and religious orders under take a two days Stewardship and Leadership Training. The Training was officially opened on Wednesday 18th March at the Melanesian Haus and involves the Training of Trainers on the above topics.
